KAMCHATKA VISITOR SURVEY
March 26, 2008 in the cultural centre of Regional Library there was held the presentation of the preliminary report of “Kamchatka Visitor Survey” Program.
This international program is managed by UNDP/GEF Project “Kamchatka Biodiversity Conservation”, Regional Administration Agency for Tourism, and such international partners as U.S. Forest Service, Universities of Northern Arizona and Alaska.
The main goal of the survey is to provide all stakeholders interested in the development of tourism and ecotourism with the demographic, marketing, and economic information about tourists and with the information concerning the use of peninsular natural resources for touristic needs.
The period of the Program duration is 1 year beginning from July 15, 2007 up to July 14, 2008. The survey is held in the check-in area of Elizovo airport. Specially trained personnel selected from Kamchatka’s students ask the passengers of the selected flights to fill the questionnaire containing about 40 questions. This questionnaire was designed after proper analysis of the information needs of various Kamchatka’s instances and organizations working in the field of natural resources management and tourism development.
The stuff of the Program introduces the questionnaire information into the computer database. 2.500 questionnaires have been collected and processed by the present time.
The preliminary analysis of collected data was presented by Professor of North Arizona University David Ostergren last Wednesday. The stuff and the managers of Kamchatka’s protected areas, Rosprirodnadzor representatives, tourist companies’ managers, Universities students and professors were present at this presentation. The final report and analysis of the data collected by the Program “Kamchatka Visitor Survey” will be presented to the public in the end of September in the form of presentations, seminars, and publications.
