Nalychevo Park


Reasons to Visit

     Nalychevo Nature Park is the picturesque Nalychevo River Valley, surrounded by active and inactive volcanoes; Nalychevo is the coast of the majestic Pacific Ocean; Nalychevo is a world of diverse flora and fauna. Nalychevo Park’s most unique feature is its thermal and mineral springs. Two hundred hot springs are set against a backdrop of picturesque mountains in a small area in the center of the park. The water composition is one of a kind, having no analogues worldwide – the springs of Nalychevo Park have been distinguished as a unique “Nalychevo” type. Getting Here

     The central part of Nalychevo Park can be reached by helicopter or on foot in the summer; in the winter – by helicopter, snowmobile or on skis. ...more


Territory

     Nalychevo Park is located on the east coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula. The bowl-like Nalychevo River Valley, 20 km long and 8 km wide, makes up main territory of the park and is surrounded by active and inactive volcanoes. The park also includes Nalychevo Lake and Krasheninnikov Island in the Avacha Bay (Pacific Ocean).  ...more



Geology

     Nalychevo Nature Park is situated within the Eastern Kamchatka Volcanic Belt. The territory of park nearly coincides with the vast volcanic-tectonic ring structure, visible as a central depression eight by 20 kilometers in size, surrounded by active and extinct volcanoes. The formation of the volcanic-tectonic structure is a result of random movements of large blocks of the lithosphere influenced by an overall uplifting, caused by the movement of the Pacific basalt plate under the Asian continental plate. ...more

Fauna

     The animal world of Nalychevo Park is very diverse, including brown bears, sable, wolves, foxes, black-capped marmots and other wild animals. There are approximately 130 species of birds in the park. ...more



Flora

     A visit to Nalychevo provides the opportunity to learn everything about the flora of the eastern Kamchatka Peninsula. The park has a special botanical trail called “You’re the Botanist.” ...more



Tours and Trails

     Nalychevo Nature Park is an excellent place for educational tourism and recreation. The park offers a number of trails of varying lengths and difficulty. The park’s main trails were built with the support of WWF, and in 2000 they were renamed “The WWF Trail.” Winter adventure tourism is also developing in the park. In 2004 “Kamchadal,” an international dog-sledding race, was held for the first time in Nalychevo Park. (“Kamchadal” is part of the World Cup for dog-sledding.) ...more



Park History

     Nalychevo Nature Park was created on August 18, 1995, and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 1996. WWF has supported the park since 1997, and since 2003 the park has been supported also by UNDP/GEF "Demonstrating Sustainable Conservation of Biological Diversity in Four Protected Areas of Russia's Kamchatka Oblast". ...more

We work to conserve the fauna and flora of the park, look after the conditions in our hot springs and keep the territory of the park clean. Visitors must obtain permission to visit Nalychevo Park at the park office in Elizovo: 684010, Kamchatsky Krai, Elizovo, Zavoiko St, 19. 007 (4152)411-710, 007 (41531)7-24-00. Here visitors can also reserve guest houses in the park. Park staff will be glad to help you plan your travel in the park and will point out places to stop. Foreign citizens must receive permission from the Federal Security Bureau (FSB) in order to visit the park.  ...more
